CSLB Law and Business exam logistics
Knowing the material is only half of test day. The other half is the practical setup: where the California CSLB Law and Business exam is given, how long you have, what you may bring, and how the scheduling window works. Here is what to expect, in our own words.
- The exam is administered by PSI in person at a PSI testing center. You schedule a seat after CSLB accepts your application, so plan travel time and arrive early; late arrivals can be turned away.
- You get 3.5 hours (210 minutes) for the exam, and it is closed book. No notes, study guides, or reference materials are allowed at your seat — everything has to come from your preparation.
- A basic calculator is provided at the test center. Personal calculators, phones, and smartwatches are prohibited and must be stored away.
- There is no penalty for guessing. Your score counts correct answers, so answer every question before time runs out.
- Bring valid, government-issued photo identification that matches the name on your application.
- Prohibited items include cell phones, notes, smartwatches, and reference materials.
- You must pass within 18 months after your application is accepted, so build your study plan around that window.
- A Spanish version of the official exam exists. This site is English-only.
- CSLB is not affiliated with any school or preparation course. Courses like this one are independent study tools.
